Mexican billionaire
Carlos Slim bid $6.5 billion to purchase the 40% of Teléfonos de México (Telmex) that was not already owned by his América Móvil telecoms company. Currently, Telmex is Mexico's biggest landline provider and buying this would strengthen Mr. Slim's ability to offer consumers a bundle of mobile, fixed-line and broadband services.
