Mexican Coca Cola Bottler FEMSA Acquires Rival
FEMSA, which is known as the largest beverage company in Mexico, recently received the title of largest independent Coca-Cola bottler in the world as of September 2011. Coke FEMSA acquired its smaller rival, the family-owned Tampico, with a deal to the tune of 9.3 billion pesos ($702 million). Tampico is a supplier of juice concentrates and sells in over 50 countries.

Carlos Slim Launches $6.5 Billion Bid for Teléfonos de Mexico
Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim bid $6.5 billion to purchase the 40% of Teléfonos de México (Telmex) that was not already owned by his América Móvil telecoms company. Currently, Telmex is Mexico's biggest landline provider and buying this would strengthen Mr. Slim's ability to offer consumers a bundle of mobile, fixed-line and broadband services.
